Sir,

I have the honour to inform you that I have granted to the Tung-Wa Hospital a site for a Mortuary at Sandy Bay close to the Plague Cemetery outside the city of Victoria on lease with a nominal rent of $1 per annum.

2. The present mortuary is situated at Kennedy Town, a portion of the city which, for sanitary reasons, is no longer suitable for the purpose, though there was no objection to it when the Government originally granted the site twenty-four years ago. On May 25th, 1898 the Sanitary Board served a notice, under Ordinance 17 of 1887, on the Chairman of the Tung-Wa Hospital Committee to the effect that a nuisance was caused by the accumulation of dead bodies at the present mortuary, and requiring the removal of the bodies and coffins to a cemetery or some other equally suitable locality. Of all available situations, that for which I have granted the lease appears the most suitable.
